Learning at St Anthony’s - Where every person is known

Learning at St Anthony’s - Where every person is known

“Stand aside for a while and leave room for learning, observe carefully what children do, and then, if you have understood well, perhaps teaching will be different from before.” - Loris Malaguzzi

In the past the job of schools and education was purely to respond to the workplace, to prepare a workforce of regimented, structured workers for an era of industrial revolution and Nation building. The work of the teacher was to pass on knowledge and fill the brain with information. All students were required to do was to replicate it and memorise it in silence and without question. Today however, the role of education and the role of the educator has changed significantly. Yesterday’s answers offer limited solutions for today and learners are not looking towards yesterday’s answers. They are searching for tomorrow’s solutions.  At St Anthony’s we work strategically together to respond to the needs of our world today and to rethink and reimagine traditional Education.

Together with our students, with their voice leading the way, Our learning and teaching philosophies gather meaning from truly collaborating with each other, asking questions, testing hypotheses, creative approaches, problem solving and negotiation. Student voice means ‘nothing about them without them’. We are always strengthening this philosophy and finding new ways to engage our students in driving their learning and choice.

'It’s necessary that we believe that the child is very intelligent, that the child is strong and beautiful and has very ambitious desires and requests. This is the image of the child we need to hold.'
